A Lost and Found Story (in prep for Song 1:8)

There once was a man who lived in a cabin nestled deep in the woods. He had a precious daughter who was fearless, adventurous, and loved being out in nature. One day when she was little, she had the frightening experience of getting lost in the woods for the first time. Panic set in. She didn’t see the cabin, and didn’t know which way to turn! Crying and wandering in circles, she noticed in the distance an arrow painted on a tree. When she got closer she noticed there was a thin path beaten down in the woods, and upon following it, saw even more arrows on the trees. Eventually she came into a small clearing with a salt lick in the center. It was her father’s salt lick behind the cabin, that he put there to attract deer. She knew she was home!

The little girl then ran into the arms of her waiting father, where she sobbed out her story. Wiping the tears from her eyes, he then told his little girl how he suspected this might happen someday, seeing she was so adventurous and prone to wander. “You see little one,” he explained, “The salt lick draws deer, which make paths. When I saw these paths, I painted the arrows to lead you back home. That way I wouldn’t have to put so many rules and boundaries on you, quenching your free spirit.” And then giving his little girl a big hug, “And I am so glad that you are who you are, and that you are back home!”.

If you do not know, most beautiful of women, go forth in the footsteps of the flock,
and tend your young goats near the shepherds’ tents. ~
Song of Songs 1:8

~ – ~ – ~ – ~

And though the Lord will give you the bread of trouble and the water of grief,
Your teacher will no longer be hidden, but you will see your teacher:
And when you are turning to the right hand or to the left,
You will hear a voice behind you and in your ears, saying,
‘This is the way in which you are to go.'”  Isa. 30:20-21

  1. The wisdom of Love understands those who do not understand, the wisdom of Love. Love plans in advance knowing that all comes together ‘in’ Love.

“Instead he planned in advance to create deer trails using a salt lick, and put markers up in the woods so she could find her way home when she got lost.”

  2. Wonderful post! The freedom to be led by the Spirit instead of man made boundaries is essential to growing up in Christ. Rules only lead to ruin. I thank Jesus for allowing us to be adventurous in out faith.

  3. Well said! Amen!

  4. Dear Pamela
Your words reminds me so much of the saying that if you leave the door of a bird cage open, the bird will at first fly away to explore its so-called freedom, but if you have treated it with love and care, it will come back to you out of its own free will.

  5. The foreknowledge only to be found with genuine, self-less love!

    1. Pride and selfishness bring forth control, but the Father’s genuine, selfless love relinquishes all control, allows free will, but in foreknowledge of our waywardness, provides the Way back to His loving, uncondemning arms.

      1. Thanks for writing my very heart so perfectly :-D! Let me add the following thought! The foreknowledge of His love even plans our wayward straying around to work for our very best as His love has in mind for us. And even the pain and suffering we have to endure during our stray will work out the perfect fruit in the end His unconditional love has destined to bless us with before He even has formed us in our mothers womb.
Without His love we’re nothing because true life is nourished from the water-streams of love and protects us even then when we spit His face blinded and in ignorance that the very love we trample upon will be the very source that foresees the blessed day when finally love will break through with us and the eternal plans of love will manifest In His glory becoming visible in us.
No, there truly remains nothing we can boast in… nothing alt all! There only remains the PRAISE OF LOVE throughout all eternity. It was love who created the universe and mankind and love will be praised without end in the ones love has chosen to be the image of itself.

He chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. IN LOVE he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, ACCORDING TO THE PURPOSE OF HIS WILL TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GRACE (and LOVE, too!!!!), with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, TO UNITE ALL THINGS IN HIM, things in heaven and things on earth. In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY (… and LOVE!).
        Eph. 1, 4-12

Verse 1: 8 reminds me of The Lord’s words, to a restored backslider Peter, “follow Me” and “feed my lambs”. Christ has His flock and His shepherds in this world, He Himself being the Chief Shepherd who leads us in green pasture. Paul also said ” follow Me as I follow Christ”. To feed others we must follow Christ, and If we follow Christ, we will desire to feed the little lambs, for in feeding others we are ourselves fed. Following Christ and feeding others, that is food and rest for our souls!

  6. What a wonderful Father! He has taken everything into account so that we can truly rest in Him. The question is, will i believe Him?
