Entering the Mystery (Song 1:1)

“The Song of Songs, which is Solomon’s” ~Song 1:1

King Solomon was known for writing 1005 songs1, but there is only one “Song of Songs.”  In verse 1, the Hebrew is superlative, emphasizing excellence and choiceness.  Other examples are, “King of Kings” and “Holy of Holies.”  What this means for us, is to pause, and here consider the life-changing implications of treading further.  How would it feel to suddenly come upon a door that reads, “You are entering a sacred place. This is the Song of Heaven itself”?  That’s essentially what the first phrase in this verse is communicating.

I was talking to someone about this book once, and she commented how amazing it is that a book so provactive and unashamedly passionate would survive over a couple thousand years of religious apostasy and man-handling, to be in the scriptures that we have today.  How true.  And that makes it not just one of the most beautiful of all books, but likely the most miraculous!

Yes, there has been an attack against this book’s message.  Not just in the many lukewarm and religiously acceptable interpretations that come out of both Judaism and “Churchianity,” but there is a possibility, which we will see more as we study the book, that the translation of the text is “tamed down” in some places, where the original language suggests something more provocative.  Even with that, however, over the centuries some Jewish leaders either discouraged or outright refused anyone under the age of 30 years from reading it!  It’s sad.  The spirit of Diotrephes2 has been at work since the beginning, trying to keep the light of God’s truth from the people.

What is your experience with the Song of Songs?

After 20 years in institutional churches and a growing desire for Christ, I became a part of a home study group of others who had a similar journey departing religion.  Then for a span of almost 10 years, we mined the depths of just about every book in the Bible; with one exception, the Song of Songs.

I have been questioning about why that is.

It is encouraging, however, that there is a time for everything, and despite any opposition to this book, the Beloved will eventually get what He set His stage for.  As this age draws to a close, a Bride is becoming increasingly prepared to enter into the door of heaven’s intimacy.

I rather like how the Message paraphrase puts it:

He taught me how to sing the latest God song, a praise song to our God.
More and more people are seeing this: they enter the mystery,
abandoning themselves to God. ~Psalm 40:3

2  3 John:9-10 > There is some evidence that Diotrephes intercepted a letter that Paul wrote, and would not deliver it to the believers.  See https://lovinglikegod.com/2012/08/26/4th-john/

  1. I’m reminded of John 6:
Vs. 60 When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?”
Vs. 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
Left to its topical value, The Song is an uncomfortable study. I myself am intrigued to indulge in the Spirit of this book!

  2. btw…that is a beautiful paraphrase of Psalm 40:3!

    1. Good passage in John. It’s nice to have you here, Paul!

  3. I felt a new song rising up within me. Come on up my beloved open the door of your heart. Just step into my chambers come up come set apart. I opened my door to you now open yours up too, my heart is jumping with fresh joy come up come up will you. Let us sing together the song of songs of love.

  4. The love He is, and exhibits to us is devoid of agenda. He does not love us so we do, or be a certain way. He loves us with a pure heart, and it is His nature. This is the love that the Triune God had known prior to time. This is the whole reason for creation, to bring us into this divine relationship that is founded in, and based upon, and expressed in love. He loves us to the point of dwelling inside of us, the deepest most intimate love we can ever experience in this life. This love is eternal, nothing and He means NOthing can separate us from Him, and His love.

Yes, a zillion million times yes…Love loves to Love

    1. Behold, He says, I stand at the door and knock. If any one enters… we will have sweet communion together. This is door into a sacred place. Before the burning bush, it was enough for Moses to take off his shoes. Before the burning passion of Jesus, as first displayed on the Cross, it is not enough to take off just the shoes. We want to know more than His words and precepts. We want to thoroughly know Him, and He us, with nothing to separate us from growing in relationship to Him

  5. Jesus is looking for more than an empty religious commitment. When we repent and dedicate ourselves to him, the word picture we need to see is that it should be more than the idea of signing a contract to get a loan for a car or a house. We need to think in terms of becoming betrothed to Him. We need to be willing to enter a spiritual relationship where we learn devotion, loyalty and alacrity to Him. We must over time learn to be sensitive to His Spirit and allow him to mature us. We must avoid becoming bonded to a religious leader or a denomination instead of Jesus Himself. We must avoid submitting to a religious system. We must learn to focus on Jesus and develop unconditional love to our brothers and sisters in the Kingdom. In other words, we need to see our relationship with Jesus, and secondarily, to each other, as a reality, not merely a mystical religious concept.

If we are not afraid to see the spiritual lessons for the saints within the Kingdom, in the pages of the Song of Solomon, our eyes will be opened. While there is a message for husbands and wives in the Song of Solomon, there is a separate but linked lesson, of great importance, for the Body of Christ as well. If we can overcome our fear and awkward emotions of issues which may arise for us as we read that book, we may very well start the spark that fuels the fire which will bring about a revolution within the Kingdom where many children mature to the point that a generation of powerful Christians will emerge that by their love and wisdom and spiritual power in Jesus will have an incredible impact that will rock the world. The darkness is coming. The more we mature in Jesus, the more our light will shine in that darkness.

    1. Yes, fear and awkward emotions is important to address in this journey. No one is immune to the battle with lies, dysfunction, and guilt regarding our sexuality. We are bombarded in our past and in our present, from within and from without. Jesus Christ, however, is the One who can forgive every sin, heal every wound, and cast out every ounce of fear. He is Perfect Love, and a Perfect Lover!
Thank you for this wonderful comment. I am glad to be on this journey with you. :)

In this world I was enveloped in all kinds of wrong love..greedy, selfish, dirty…love that only knew how to take. It wasn’t love at all. Love gives. Love covers. Love fills all & any empty place inside me. I’m excited to be embarking on this journey of His Perfect Love!!

  6. Yes, Jesus IS Salvation! Let us all have the Faith in His finished work and be with Him boldly in The Holy of Holys! Hallelujah!

  7. Can we say that this Song of songs has been sealed, that it can only be opened by ‘One’, and this is by invitation, to enter His bedchamber, to Love and be Loved by Love personified…may we enter, and learn how to Love.
