The point was not this woman is beautiful, or that she is confident in her beauty, but rather the reaction she gets from the other women. Jay went on to explain the “gender neutral” part:

“A man generally has to either say something or do something to get the same effect. And if a man either says something or does something that is prettier than what the other men in the room are saying or doing, it’s the same dynamic that goes on. It’s seen best when Jesus came to Jerusalem. All the experts who were experts before He got there, wanted to kill Him.”

I wonder if the last post about the Woman’s determination to be kissed whet the appetite for more? Because at the deeper level of what’s going to happen, it all “starts with a kiss”… as the saying goes.
There is a place for meeting our own needs, but there is also a critical time for going on with the Lord in maturity. The Bride in the Song of Songs is not a woman wandering in doubt of who she is or what she wants in life. There is a place she has reached sexually and reproductively that speaks of spiritual maturity, and a desperation right from the opening verse that makes her 'terrible as an army.'
In verse 2, the opening words of the Song, the Bride is expressing intimate desires for her Beloved. “Kiss me”, she says. And in the last verse of the Song, she is expressing a longing for Him to hurry to her. “Make haste, run to me”, she says again. In-between there are passionate trysts of intimacy. There are also a few dark spells of searching, losing touch with the Beloved, and being hurt by others who do not love Him. It is painfully obvious that at times, her vision gets clouded. But she is His, and He is hers.
