Dear Christian,
I am not commenting on the original post, though it sounds like a very valid way to explain the Jesus’s offering of his life for the humanity in the most sacred and deepest of the interpersonal relationship called marriage. This is in a way validating the Catholic liturgy too.But I am surprised by the kind of words used by you. If you are a Christian worth thinking, if that matches your identity.

As the other comments have shown, I hope, I am not against what you are saying, Adam. Although sharing a cup of wine as part of a covenant is common in many cultures and ceremonies, I agree: even if it seems like a "nice" connection, without some kind of actual evidence, it is untrue at worst, or a "possibility" at best. I'm just keeping this post "as is" in order to hold out for more evidence, for or against.

Hello everyone

First of all, I want to say that I came upon this post when I googled " the Jewish relationship between girls and wine", I was trying to understand the proverbial concept of Joel 3:3 - why girls were/are sold for wine !!
The quest for this clarity is still ongoing, but I would love to also agree with Pamela's submission - sometimes one reads something and not only does one's soul agree and enjoys it, but also one's spirit attests to the truth underlying the new knowledge...

Thanks Pamela's, Interestingly in my culture as a muganda from Uganda , at the so -called introduction/engagement ceremony, the groom to be visits the bride's family, during which visit, the groom's side shares a guord/cup of, and drinks of the same local wine with the bride's side - in the same respect of coming into agreement and giving of lives.

Thank you for your response, Pamela!

I agree, many of the Christian writings on this that I've seen online seem to repeat the same information. So I decided to look on Google Scholar for more reliable (or at least vetted) sources. I found a number of very detailed and informative articles and chapters on the subject. They more or less confirm everything that I have read on websites and articles such as yours.

I would be interested to hear if the Jewish scholar you reached out or any other people more educated on the topic offer any additional insight on this!
