Recently I read how bananas are picked green, and on route to the grocery stores are artificially gassed to ripen up. And because of this, they lack in nutritional value. It makes me think of our human tendency to manipulate results, and not wait for God’s perfect timing.
“I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, by the gazelles or the does of the field, that you not stir up or awaken love until it pleases.” – Song of Songs 2:7
This is an important verse in The Song. It is mentioned three times, (2:7, 3:5, 8:4) and always in similar contexts. Admittedly, it took me awhile for the meaning to sink in, partly I think, because …

When I was a little girl I had a hobby horse, and remember spending countless hours riding and grooming it. Later in life when riding a real horse for the first time, a strong déjà vu feeling of my pretend horse came flooding back. It’s hard to describe, but sitting on the back of the reality, I felt like I had been there before, and it brought an exhilarating, childlike joy to my ride.
All this came to mind on a certain trip, in which I could not escape an adventurous sense that its moments were once played out in the history of the Bible somewhere. What exactly I did not know, but it felt as if something from the past was merging with the present, forming a new and higher reality.
Hopefully I haven’t lost anyone. It’s actually an experience that, for me, helped unlock something in this next portion of the Song…

The humility of the heart cry, “Draw me!” (Song 1:4) is one that is irresistible to God. Pray it often! Pray it with sincerity!
My experience is that you will pray it when you are desperate. You will pray it when you get a genuine glimpse of Christ’s beauty or smell His fragrance. And you …

I wonder if the last post about the Woman’s determination to be kissed whet the appetite for more? Because at the deeper level of what’s going to happen, it all “starts with a kiss”… as the saying goes. So how perfect that the Song begins with kissing!
Because kissing, from the standpoint of foreplay to sex, is a rich metaphor to explore.
For example…

Look at you! How beautiful you are, my beloved, and how charming! Our bed is green! Song 1:16
I find it intriguing that when the Shulamite woman is in the garden returning the gaze of her beloved that she at first sees his beauty, and then immediately a bed. She obviously saw what he is thinking! :-) But this is no ordinary bed. The first thing she notices is that it is green.

“Draw me… Hurry!” It can be a very delicate dance to live in intimate relationship, whether we are talking physically or spiritually. There are “signals” that we receive – and it really does become important to be ready, particularly when you want to be impregnated with His life …

What is the connection between the Song of Songs and the return of Christ? The last words of the book of Revelation is spoken by the Bride of Christ, and the SAME expression is found in the last words of a Bride in the Song of Songs! Coincidence?

“Kiss” in the original seems to have its meaning in the sense of an attachment or a fastening up; even with a military connotation. I guess when you are in a war, and we surely are, you don’t want to become detached from Him. In such a case the wine might get spilled. ~Jay Ferris
