The woman at the well in John 4. Who is she? A harlot who goes through men like water? A victim of cruel men who either die or get bored of her? The underlying reasons for those questions are important. But what if we are simply coming to the story with 21st century concerns …

A Black Tent – and a Different Kind of Beautiful!
Jay Ferris had a striking analogy that was not always understood at first.
“The Kingdom of God is like a drop dead gorgeous woman
who walks into a room full of women….gender neutral.”
The point was not this woman is beautiful, or that she is confident in her beauty, but rather the reaction she gets from the other women. Jay went on to explain the “gender neutral” part:
“A man generally has to either say something or do something to get the same effect. And if a man either says something or does something that is prettier than what the other men in the room are saying or doing, it’s the same dynamic that goes on. It’s seen best when Jesus came to Jerusalem. All the experts who were experts before He got there, wanted to kill Him.”
What a poignant image this is, considering there was a houseful of women in …

Thirsty For A Kiss (Song 1:2 continued)
I wonder if the last post about the Woman’s determination to be kissed whet the appetite for more? Because at the deeper level of what’s going to happen, it all “starts with a kiss”… as the saying goes. Like a first sip of wine whose effect goes straight to the brain, a single kiss can light a new, unquenchable appetite for the Bride to not be satisfied with anything except the “full cup.”

For example…

G.I. Jane and the Bridal Paradigm
“The biggest symbols make the biggest targets.”
Explaining movie plots is so not my skill, but I just watched one called “G.I. Jane” that was inspiring to me, and I’d like to try to share something I saw in it pertaining to the Bride of Christ. Along with some other encouragement from the Lord and others, it has energized me to wade back into …

Beautiful Obscurity (Song 1:6 continued)
Jay Ferris had a striking analogy that was not always understood at first, saying,“The Kingdom of God is like a drop dead gorgeous woman who walks into a room full of women – gender neutral.”
A poignant image considering there was 140+ women in King Solomon’s life when in relationship to the Shulamite.

The Great “Com PASSION” (Song 1:3)
I once spent several years in my 20’s in a very bad slump. I wore a plain brown dress and didn’t wear makeup or put jam on my toast. I walked around feeling the weight of the whole world was on my shoulders, and if I didn’t warn literally everyone that passed me on the street they would all be doomed forever.

Terrible as an Army With Banners
There is a place for meeting our own needs, but there is also a critical time for going on with the Lord in maturity. The Bride in the Song of Songs is not a woman wandering in doubt of who she is or what she wants in life. There is a place she has reached sexually and reproductively that speaks of spiritual maturity, and a desperation right from the opening verse that makes her ‘terrible as an army.’ Song 6:10
