The Touch Me Not Flower

“When the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son.” Gal 4:4

touch me not flowerThere is an interesting wildflower that grows in the summer woods of N.Y. here, usually along streams.  I look for it when I walk because the juice in its stems is said to be helpful if you run into stinging nettle or poison ivy.  One of the names for it is “Touch-me-not”.¹  If you brush up against it at the right time it bursts with a little pop.   Full of seed, they will release upon the slightest touch!

It’s one of the plants in the family of flowers called “Impatiens.”  Yes, this is Latin for where we get our word “impatience” from. :)

This flower speaks volumes to me right now, because there is something about the love of Christ that is very impatient, too!

In the next post I’d like to try and explain more.

(I will try to have patience until then!) :)

  1. :-O

  2. As a child, I was familiar with a different kind of ‘touch-me-not’ plant that grew wild in my southern locale. It is quite different in reaction than the flower! Here’s a U.K. website that has a video of it.
